About SESSIONS @ WAFTA

Ongoing Artistic Study with Resident Faculty

A deeper, steady approach to artistic growth.

For those looking to build skills over time, W.A.F.T.A. Sessions provide ongoing instruction with our resident artists and faculty. These multi-week or semester-long courses offer structured learning in a variety of disciplines, allowing students to refine their technique, strengthen artistic foundations, and develop a personal creative voice.

Many Session participants are enrolled in our Atelier Program, dedicated to serious, long-term study, while others simply want to commit one day a week to their artistic practice. Unlike Workshops, which are short and immersive with visiting artists, Sessions unfold gradually, giving students the opportunity to practice, receive consistent feedback, and develop their work in a collaborative environment. Meeting once or several times a week, these classes create space for experimentation, mentorship, and steady artistic progress.

For those looking for independent study, we also offer Open Sketch programming throughout the week. These uninstructed open studio sessions provide access to live models in a quiet, focused environment, often moderated by one of our resident artists. Whether you’re refining your figure drawing or simply looking for dedicated time to create, Open Studio Time offers a flexible way to stay engaged in your artistic practice.

Whether you’re a beginner looking for foundational training or an experienced artist deepening your craft, Sessions provide the guidance, structure, and community to support your creative journey.
