Wethersfield Academy for the Arts
About The Barns and the Historic Old Buck Farm

Enter into the new Wethersfield Academy for the Arts. The work ethic of this farm is becoming transformed into a thriving artistic oasis. The Academy, being restored with light and functionality, energized with friends, artists and patrons who share and uphold this vision, provides an arts curriculum that spans the generations and encourages the joy of life-long learning. Studies in drawing, oil and acrylic painting, music, dance, literature, voice, and drama will take place in the classroom and artist studios, and will be brought to the public eye through exhibition, gallery presentations, and performance in the calm rural atmosphere of yesteryear.

The inspiration for the barns revealed itself as we admired their handsome beauty and massive size. The barns seemed to be waiting for a new call to life. With joy, we came to the same decision… an arts school.

Their historic presence is a daily reminder of a way of life in the early days in the development of our nation. We are mindful of the unique gift handed to us - a farm passed down from father to son for over 250 years. For generations the Bucks have been industrious, community minded, and patriotic citizens. During the War of Independence the Bucks contributed beef steers to General Washington’s starving troops in Valley Forge and General Lafayette presented a sword to Daniel Buck. In this tradition we felt impressed to use the barns for Wethersfield and neighboring communities.

It is our view that artistic expression reflects the heart of a nation and is an essential element in defining a nation’s character. Our hearts are buoyed up as we work to improve the farm, but above all we are elated to see our vision of the Academy take shape and flourish. We invite you to feel the joy that is the heart of the barns at The Wethersfield Academy for the Arts at Old Buck Farm. Welcome! Imagine! Enjoy!
